In this verse, the narrative of the Bhagavad Gita advances through a concrete moment on the battlefield. The verse says: Behold, O Teacher! This mighty army of the sons of Pandu, arrayed by the son of Drupada, thy wise disciple. Its immediate meaning belongs to the scene of Kurukshetra, yet its deeper importance lies in the way it reveals pandava army, kaurava army, duty, strategy. Chapter 1 does not begin with abstract doctrine; it begins with human pressure, family memory, duty, fear, and moral uncertainty. This makes the teaching practical from the start. The verse helps us see that spiritual wisdom often arises when ordinary judgment is no longer enough. As the crisis becomes sharper, Arjuna and the reader are brought toward the need for guidance, discrimination, and surrender to a higher understanding.

In Gita 1.3, the verse belongs to Duryodhana's survey of the armies, where fear, calculation, lineage, and power are already shaping action before battle begins. Its immediate statement is: Behold, O Teacher! This mighty army of the sons of Pandu, arrayed by the son of Drupada, thy wise disciple. The Sanskrit frame begins from "पश्यैतां पाण्डुपुत्राणामाचार्य महतीं चमूम्। व्यूढां द्रुपदपुत्रेण तव शिष्येण धीमता।।1.3।।", placing the reader inside a field where karma is not abstract theory but impending action. At this level the verse concerns the forces aligned with legitimate duty; the forces shaped by grasping and insecurity; svadharma under concrete historical pressure. The deeper issue is how dharma is obscured when the embodied person, functioning through prakriti, reads events through fear, role, kinship, or expectation. From an Advaitic angle, the verse shows the instability of identification with the empirical situation: the mind mistakes relational and bodily conditions for the whole truth of the self. From a devotional reading, Sanjaya's position also exposes the need for guidance that exceeds personal calculation; without orientation toward Krishna, even sincere emotion can become moha rather than wisdom. A general ethical interpretation adds another distinction: renunciation is not the refusal of difficulty, and action is not purified merely because it is socially required. The Gita will insist that both action and withdrawal must be judged by insight, attachment, and alignment with dharma. Thus the verse contributes to the architecture of Chapter 1 by tightening the knot that Chapter 2 will untie philosophically. It prepares the movement from vishada to jnana: confusion is not dismissed, but made transparent enough to be transformed. For contemplation, the verse asks the serious reader to observe where perception is already colored by possession, anxiety, pity, or pride.

इस श्लोक का मुख्य अर्थ यह है कि गीता जीवन के कठिन निर्णय-क्षेत्र में घटित होती है। श्लोक का भाव है: हे आचार्य ! आपके बुद्धिमान शिष्य द्रुपदपुत्र (धृष्टद्द्युम्न) द्वारा व्यूहाकार खड़ी की गयी पाण्डु पुत्रों की इस महती सेना को देखिये।। इन श्लोकों में दुर्योधन की दृष्टि से सेनाओं का वर्णन आता है। बाहरी रूप से वह व्यवस्था और शक्ति की बात करता है, पर भीतर भय, तुलना और असुरक्षा भी दिखाई देती है। इसलिए यह प्रसंग केवल घटना का वर्णन नहीं करता, बल्कि उस मनःस्थिति को भी खोलता है जिसमें मनुष्य बाहरी परिस्थिति को मोह, भय और कर्तव्य-बोध के साथ देखता है। दार्शनिक दृष्टि से यह श्लोक धर्मपक्ष की शक्ति, अहंकार और असुरक्षा से जुड़ा पक्ष, स्वधर्म, रणनीति और भय जैसे विषयों को सामने लाता है। गीता में शरीर, संबंध और परिस्थिति प्रकृति के क्षेत्र में आते हैं; वे परिवर्तनशील हैं और मन को प्रभावित करते हैं। पर आत्मा का विवेक समझाता है कि केवल भावुक प्रतिक्रिया ही धर्म नहीं होती। कर्म का मूल्य इस बात से तय होता है कि वह आसक्ति और अहंकार से प्रेरित है या स्पष्ट बुद्धि और स्वधर्म से। जीवन में इस श्लोक का उपयोग व्यावहारिक है। जब कोई व्यक्ति परिवार, समाज, काम या जिम्मेदारी से जुड़े कठिन निर्णय के सामने खड़ा होता है, तब केवल भावना या डर पर्याप्त नहीं होते। गीता सिखाती है कि दृष्टि को शांत और ईमानदार बनाकर देखना चाहिए कि हमारा कदम धर्म, करुणा और विवेक से जुड़ा है या सुविधा और मोह से। इस प्रकार यह श्लोक साधक को अपने भ्रम को पहचानने और सही मार्गदर्शन के लिए तैयार करता है।
